Released on November 12, 〈The First Memory〉 has received positive reviews from both audiences and critics in its second week of release, unveiling a variety of special GV schedules.
As an invited film in the feature competition section of the 49th Seoul Independent Film Festival and an official selection in the 'Gwangyang's Perspective' section of the 2nd Namdo Film Festival Season 2, 〈The First Memory〉 is a work born from the workshop methodology of two directors who have led film acting classes for a long time. The journey of actors walking towards the origin of memory and emotion expands beyond acting to a perspective on an individual's life, leaving a deep resonance.
Thanks to the enthusiastic response, 〈The First Memory〉 is announcing a diverse and rich GV schedule. In the second week of release, a deep talk on the theme of 'Acting Workshop In-Depth Talk' will take place with director Jang Geon-jae and actors Lee Geum-joo, Kang Min-joo, Seo Dong-geun, and Baek Yo-seon, along with critic Kim Cheol-hong, who is actively engaged in criticism and is a recipient of the Cine21 Film Critic Award.
At the GV commemorating the release of 〈The First Memory〉, held at The Forest Art Cinema, director Jang Geon-jae will attend and engage in a discussion with critic Lee Sang-yong, who has served as a programmer for the Busan International Film Festival and the Jeonju International Film Festival. The two will focus on the acting theory of director Hamaguchi Ryusuke, discussing the films 〈Intimacy〉 and 〈Happy Hour〉, as well as 〈The First Memory〉, exploring questions and answers about the methodology and philosophy of film acting workshops, and illuminating the meaning of 'existing in front of the camera' from various angles.
Critic Kim Hyo-jung, who recently joined as a new programmer for the Jeonju International Film Festival, will host the Emu Cinema GV, where director An Sun-kyung will attend. Director An Sun-kyung will delve into acting direction, covering topics from building relationships through acting to how to translate a character's inner self onto the screen, based on over ten years of rich experience in acting workshops.
At Art House Momo, actors Lee Geum-joo, Kang Min-joo, Seo Dong-geun, Baek Yo-seon, and Jo Eun-kyung will share behind-the-scenes stories and acting philosophies during a 'Chat of Actors' GV with director/actor Moon Hye-in, who directed 〈Samhee: The Adventure of 3 Joys〉. At Seoul Art Cinema, under the guidance of film critic Yoo Un-seong, directors An Sun-kyung and Jang Geon-jae will sit together to share critical insights on the form and aesthetics of workshop films. Additionally, director An Sun-kyung's film 〈At the End of the Movie〉, which was a nominee for the 28th Busan International Film Festival's Jiseok Award, will be screened as a special presentation. Directors An Sun-kyung and Jang Geon-jae will engage in a deep discussion on the theme of 'Acting in Front of the Camera' with film critic Kim Min-se, who is contributing to the film webzine CoAR. This will be a time to explore how the act of standing in front of the camera evokes and transforms a person's memories and emotions, going beyond simple acting techniques.
