The early work of Japanese animation master Mamoru Oshii, 〈Angel's Egg〉, will be released in Korea.
〈Angel's Egg〉 is a work that was originally released as an original video animation (OVA) in 1985, depicting the meeting of a girl who believes an angel will be born and is cradling a white egg, and a mysterious boy holding a cross. After its world premiere in the Classics section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, it was screened at the 27th Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF) in a special Japanese section, marking its first encounter with Korean audiences.
Director Mamoru Oshii took charge of the original story, screenplay, and direction, creating an unprecedented original story filled with religious and metaphysical symbolism, while the art direction, including character design, was handled by Yoshitaka Amano, famous for the 〈Final Fantasy〉 series, completing a dreamy, colorful, and mysterious artistic style.
〈Angel's Egg〉 will be released in Korea in 2026.
