
Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 24. Known as the 'He-Man' of Indian cinema, he had been hospitalized last month due to health issues but was discharged and was recuperating at home.
The funeral was held at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai, attended by his wife, actress Hema Malini, and sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, along with family members. Top Bollywood stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar attended to pay their respects as he made his final journey.
60-Year Career, Over 300 Film Appearances
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences in a message stating, "Dharmendra's passing signifies the end of an era in Indian cinema", adding, "He was a phenomenal actor who infused charm and depth into every role."
Born in Punjab in 1935, Dharmendra debuted in the film industry in 1960 and appeared in over 300 films over more than 60 years. His notable works, such as 'Sholay' and 'Seeta Aur Geeta', left a lasting legacy in Indian film history.
He built his unique style by alternating between action hero and romantic lead, and in 2012, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest honor in the arts by the Indian government. He continued to be active into his late 80s, appearing in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' in 2023.
Dharmendra's last work is the war drama 'Ikkis', starring his grandson Agastya Nanda, set to be released on December 25. Indian President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep condolences, calling it a "huge loss for Indian cinema."
