Draws the Line on MCU 'Doomsday' Rumors... "Wanda will return someday, but not now"

Elizabeth Olsen, who captivated the world as the powerful witch 'Scarlet Witch' in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has returned to audiences with a unique romantic comedy.

A24's new film 'Eternity', which premiered across North America on the 26th (local time), is a fantasy romantic comedy set in the afterlife. In this work, Olsen sheds her existing superhero image and showcases a profound performance exploring the meaning of life and love.

"I feel like a 90-year-old... An 'old soul' choice distancing from trends"

In an interview with 'The Hollywood Reporter' conducted ahead of the release, Olsen candidly shared her feelings about the romantic comedy genre.

She confessed, "It may sound strange, but at 36, I find it hard to imagine myself acting as 'someone from the modern world' while filming a romantic comedy." She continued, "I don't know how to capture the current pop culture trends at this moment. I feel too far removed from it," admitting that despite being at the center of the massive pop culture of the MCU, she feels disconnected from trends.

For her, 'Eternity' came as if by fate. Olsen explained, "Although I have the body of a woman in her 30s, I felt I could portray this character who is internally a 90-year-old. I thought it was a unique opportunity that aligns with the way I perceive the world and may never come again."

A Love Triangle After Death... Husband vs. First Love

Directed by David Frain, 'Eternity' creatively unravels the choices after death. The protagonist 'Joan', played by Olsen, is a 90-year-old matriarch who passes away just a week after her husband Larry (played by Miles Teller) dies.

Arriving in the afterlife in her youthful form, Joan faces a crossroads where she must choose who to spend eternity with. The conflict between her devoted husband Larry and her first love Luke (played by Colm Turner), who died in the Korean War and remains forever young, is the core of the story.

Olsen mentioned that she could deeply immerse herself in her character because of her own imagined old age since high school. She recalled, "I dreamed of aging alone in a coastal town in England. I have always longed for a simple life, walking my dog in foggy weather, with a bakery and a fish shop one by one."

When Will She Return to the MCU? "I love Wanda, but it's not 'Doomsday'"

Meanwhile, Olsen also clarified her stance on the highly anticipated MCU return. Regarding the rumored appearance in the upcoming blockbuster 'Avengers: Doomsday', set to release in 2026, she stated, "I will not be appearing."

Olsen expressed, "I have no idea when or how Wanda will return at this point," but added, "I genuinely love playing Wanda Maximoff, and if given the opportunity, I would gladly return," revealing her continued affection for the character.

Currently, Olsen is making bold strides in both commercial and independent films. In addition to 'Eternity', she has ambitious projects lined up, including a new project from master Todd Solondz and a vampire thriller 'Flesh of the Gods' directed by Panos Cosmatos, where she will star alongside Kristen Stewart and Oscar Isaac.
