The Second Mirrorball Heading to Australia Zoo... Partner Whitney Carson Reclaims the Title After 11 Years
Robert Irwin (21), son of the 'Crocodile Hunter', perfectly recreated the glorious path his sister walked 10 years ago. This established a remarkable record in the history of 'Dancing with the Stars' (DWTS) as the first siblings to both become champions.
On the 26th (local time), during the live broadcast of ABC's 'DWTS' Season 34 finale, wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin and professional dancer Whitney Carson's team won the final championship, becoming the owners of the 'Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy'.
◆ A 10-Year Gap, A Perfect Parallel Theory
This victory holds more significance for the Irwin family than just a trophy. Exactly 10 years ago, in 2015 (Season 21), Robert's sister Bindi Irwin won on this very stage.
Immediately after winning, Robert shared on Instagram, "10 years ago my sister brought the mirrorball home, and 11 years ago my partner Whitney won. Today we rewrote that history," expressing his overwhelming feelings, saying, "This is the most special full circle moment of my life."
Bindi Irwin also congratulated her brother's achievement, stating, "Now there will be two mirrorballs at Australia Zoo," and expressed her emotions, saying, "Robert, the journey you showed has inspired me once again."
◆ A 'Healing Dance' Completed with Injury Determination
Robert's path to victory was not smooth. He suffered a rib injury during training before the finale, making his participation uncertain. However, he took to the stage while on painkillers and delivered an emotional performance in freestyle dance, paying tribute to his late father, Steve Irwin, who passed away in 2006, moving the judges and audience to tears.
Robert stated, "I was able to write a story of positivity, vulnerability, and passion with Whitney," adding, "This dance was a healing experience for me."
◆ Unprecedented Voting Heat... Surpassing Alix Earle
This season is expected to be recorded as the most intense competition in DWTS history. Co-host Julianne Hough officially announced during the broadcast, "The text votes received by Robert Irwin and runner-up Alix Earle in the finale broke the all-time season record."
Meanwhile, for Robert's partner, veteran professional dancer Whitney Carson, this victory is particularly special. It marks her return to the top after 11 years since winning in Season 19 in 2014. Whitney praised Robert's dedication, joking, "I guess I’ll have to go down to Australia to deliver the trophy," adding warmth to the moment.
