Actor Kim Go-eun revealed her in-depth interpretation of the character 'Mo-eun' she played in the Netflix original series 〈The Price of Confession〉 and her special connection with senior Jeon Do-yeon.

⬦ "Psychopath? No, a person whose emotions are broken"…Kim Go-eun's interpretation of 'Mo-eun'

In an interview held in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 12th, Kim Go-eun said, "I thought a lot about how to conceive the character Mo-eun. I wanted to show that when a human experiences overload, their emotions can be completely castrated," defining Mo-eun as a 'character who has undergone emotional castration.'

〈The Price of Confession〉 is a mystery thriller that unfolds as Ahn Yoon-soo (played by Jeon Do-yeon), who is accused of killing her husband, receives a shocking deal from the murderer Mo-eun (played by Kim Go-eun) she meets in prison.

In the early part of the drama, Mo-eun is depicted as a psychopath who kills people horrifically without changing her expression. She makes a shocking proposal to Yoon-soo, saying she will confess to killing Yoon-soo's husband if Yoon-soo kills someone else outside the prison in return.

However, as the story progresses, Mo-eun is revealed to be a character with deep wounds from losing her father and brother, and the tragic background that led her to murder is uncovered.

Kim Go-eun explained her character interpretation process, saying, "In the first draft of the script, Mo-eun was portrayed as a character trying to look like a psychopath, but then I wondered how she would behave when she is alone. I thought it would be more accurate if Mo-eun is just still while others misunderstand and think of her in their own way."

Mo-eun's trademark short hairstyle was Kim Go-eun's original idea.

Kim Go-eun stated, "I wanted Mo-eun's hair not to hide her face, so I thought it should be very short. In fact, I even considered a buzz cut at first."

In the scene where Mo-eun hears the news of her father and brother's death while volunteering in Thailand, Kim Go-eun's ideas were heavily incorporated.

Kim Go-eun recalled, "During the filming in Thailand, the script did not specifically describe the situation after losing her brother and father. I suggested that we should express the process of human emotions breaking like a balloon bursting in a short time, and we created the scene while discussing it with the director."

She expressed her emotions recalling the heartfelt praise she received from senior Jeon Do-yeon on set.

"The senior arrived late on the set in Thailand and said, 'Go-eun, I heard you created that scene with the director. You did so well,' and I was deeply moved. Watching from the side, I realized that she is someone who only speaks sincerely. She is not someone who gives compliments just to sound nice, so her words resonated more deeply with me."

Kim Go-eun described Jeon Do-yeon, with whom she worked together for the first time in 10 years since the film 〈Memories of the Sword〉 (2015), as a 'happy actress to be able to act together in the same era.'

She reflected, "When I stood next to the senior in 〈Memories of the Sword〉, I felt like it was a dream or reality. Back then, I had such a big role that every scene was overwhelming for me, and if the senior had helped me, now that a long time has passed, I was happy to be able to take care of her."

⬦ From 〈Exhuma〉 to 〈The Price of Confession〉…Kim Go-eun in her prime

Kim Go-eun, who has received consecutive praise for her recent works including the film 〈Exhuma〉, 〈Love in the Big City〉, and the drama 〈You and Everything Else〉, is being praised for her performance in 〈The Price of Confession〉 as 'her acting has reached a new level.'

Kim Go-eun humbly expressed her thoughts on this reaction, saying, "I think it is very difficult for the works I am filming to be recognized consecutively. I have worked hard, but there have been many times when the box office was poor. However, seeing the works I filmed from last year to this year being loved consecutively, I found it very amazing and thought it was a miracle. I believe this praise will be a great strength for me in the future."
