Wave will exclusively release the 4K remastered version of the stop-motion animated masterpiece ‘Coraline’ on December 18th.
The film ‘Coraline’ is a dark fantasy animation that depicts the fantastic adventure of Coraline, who spends lonely days due to busy parents, discovering a secret door in her new home that leads her to the dreamlike ‘other world’ and ‘other parents’ with button eyes. Directed and written by the master of stop-motion animation, Henry Selick, known for ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’, it showcases fantastic visuals and unique directorial skills, with Hollywood actress Dakota Fanning voicing the main character Coraline, adding delicate emotional depth.
‘Coraline’ won the Grand Prix at the 33rd International Animation Festival upon its initial release in 2009 and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, gaining recognition for both its artistic quality and popularity. In 2024, it will be re-released in North America in a 3D remastered version to celebrate its 15th anniversary, surpassing the box office performance of the 4K remastered 3D re-release of ‘Avatar’ (2022), generating buzz once again.
In South Korea, it was re-released on October 22nd, achieving a cumulative audience of 213,000, ranking first among all re-released animations in 2025. With a high percentage of ticket reservations from viewers in their 20s, it ranked third in the overall box office on its opening day, proving solid word-of-mouth with an Egg Index of 97% and a portal site rating of 8.4.
Continuing this interest, Wave will exclusively release the 4K remastered version of ‘Coraline’ on December 18th. During the Christmas and New Year season, it is expected to attract significant attention from the ‘grown-up’ audience looking for works that stimulate emotion and imagination.
