'The Price of Confession' Jeon Do-yeon Says, 'Kim Go-eun Has Grown into an Amazing Actress After 10 Years'

Actress Jeon Do-yeon opened up about her performance in the Netflix series 〈The Price of Confession〉. In an interview held in Seoul on the 12th, Jeon Do-yeon showed deep insights into the work and character.

〈The Price of Confession〉 is a mystery thriller that unfolds as the husband murder suspect Ahn Yoon-soo (Jeon Do-yeon) is offered a dangerous deal by the murderer Mo-eun (Kim Go-eun) whom she meets in prison. Yoon-soo accepts the proposal to kill another person in exchange for a false confession to clear her name.

Jeon Do-yeon interpreted the character Ahn Yoon-soo from a multi-layered perspective rather than simple maternal love. "I thought the motivation for Yoon-soo to make a dangerous deal was not just because of maternal love. I believe there is also a desire to live as a human, Ahn Yoon-soo," she said.

She explained, "When I watch dramas with women's narratives, it seems that maternal love is always emphasized. I thought that the people around Yoon-soo kept forcing maternal love on her. I wondered if the purpose of her sacrifice was necessarily for her child." She also added, "I thought about what Yoon-soo wanted to do after accepting the dangerous deal. I think there was also a desperation to catch the real culprit to clear her name."

This work is a reunion with director Lee Jung-hyo, whom she met in the drama 〈The Good Wife〉. "I really liked 〈The Good Wife〉, and I thought it was a work that was a bit ahead of its time compared to then. I had a desire to work with this director again," she revealed.

Reuniting with Kim Go-eun, whom she met 10 years ago in the film 〈The Treacherous〉, also held special meaning. "Back in 〈The Treacherous〉, Go-eun was just starting out as a rookie, but I wanted to see how much she has grown and how amazing an actress she has become over the past 10 years. We met often in private, but I was curious about how our acting chemistry would be when we met again in a project," she shared.

Jeon Do-yeon praised Kim Go-eun's growth. "I was a bit disappointed that there weren't as many direct scenes together as I expected, but I felt very reassured every time we met on set. At some point, Go-eun even led the filming. I thought it was amazing to see Kim Go-eun carry Mo-eun all the way through," she said.

She honestly shared the difficulties of the filming process. "I didn't read the script all the way through when choosing the work, but I didn't know it would be such a tough project. I didn't expect 〈The Price of Confession〉 to be this big," she laughed.

"Filming started when it was extremely hot and ended when it was extremely cold. There were many running scenes, so it was physically tough," she said, but added, "Still, receiving so much love made it feel rewarding in return."

She also mentioned that this work was the one where she used her facial muscles the most in her acting career. "A close acquaintance told me after watching the work, 'I liked that there were many new expressions from Jeon Do-yeon that I had never seen before.' I think the desperation came out in my facial expressions," she recalled.

Jeon Do-yeon said, "When I actively engage in theater, dramas, and films, I feel that while it may be physically demanding, it mentally frees me," and "I think I can avoid getting tired by thinking that I should enjoy it while I can,"explaining the reason for her continuous work in projects.

Regarding her future aspirations, she said, "To hear people say, 'Can Jeon Do-yeon act like that?' I have to show various sides of myself. If I can instill new thoughts like 'Jeon Do-yeon can do comedy too,' I think various works will come in genre-wise," expressing her desire to expand her acting range.
