Will the eternal "Christmas troublemaker" Kevin return? Macaulay Culkin is exciting fans around the world by presenting an unprecedented and bold sequel idea on the 35th anniversary of the film's release.
According to foreign media on the 17th (local time), Macaulay Culkin recently revealed specific plans for a sequel to 'Home Alone' during his tour 'A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin'. He mentioned that he does not completely reject the idea of returning to the role of Kevin McAllister, but added that "everything has to align perfectly" for it to happen.
◆ Kevin, who used to chase thieves, is now 'kicked out' of the house
The idea Culkin revealed completely twists the original's formula. The adult Kevin he envisions is a widower or divorced man, a father who is neglectful of his child due to work. Culkin explained, "Kevin gets locked out of the house, and his son won't let him in," stating that "the Kevin who used to protect the house is now in a position where he struggles to get back inside."

◆ The son sets traps and the dad gets caught... 'Metaphor of relationships'
The most notable point is the reversal of roles. In the original, Kevin created ingenious traps against thieves, but this time, his son sets traps to stop his father. Culkin remarked, "The house will be a metaphor for our relationship," hinting at a profound theme of restoring the father-son relationship beyond simple slapstick comedy. This film, which was released in 1990 and grossed $476 million worldwide, making Culkin a 90s icon, raises curiosity about how it might be reborn in some form after 35 years.
◆ The original director is 'not so sure'... "Leave when the applause is loudest"
However, the legendary return does not seem easy. Chris Columbus, the director of the original, maintains a skeptical stance on the sequel's production. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last August, Columbus stated, "'Home Alone' was a special moment in itself, and you can't capture lightning in a bottle twice," drawing the line that "attempting to forcibly recreate the glory of 35 years ago would be a mistake."
