The film starring Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo, 〈The Great Flood〉, has maintained its position at the top of the Netflix non-English film chart for 4 consecutive weeks, continuing its global box office record.
According to the official Netflix tracking site Tudum on the 14th, the view count for 〈The Great Flood〉 from January 5 to 11 reached 5.2 million, ranking first in the non-English film category. The view count is calculated by dividing the total viewing time by the film's runtime.
Released on the 19th of last month, 〈The Great Flood〉 recorded 27.9 million views in its first week, 33.1 million in its second week, and 11.1 million in its third week, securing the top spot for three consecutive weeks and maintaining its position in the fourth week. It achieved the feat of entering the top 10 in 56 countries worldwide, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan.
Directed by Kim Byung-woo, 〈The Great Flood〉 tells the story of researcher Anna (Kim Da-mi), who is selected as a rescue target in a major disaster situation, fighting to protect her young son Jae-in (Kwon Eun-sung). It is praised as an original attempt that combines deep reflections on artificial intelligence and motherhood within the disaster film genre.
Released on Netflix on the 5th, Yeon Sang-ho's 〈The Ugly〉 recorded 2 million views in its first week, ranking fifth in the non-English film category. Based on the webtoon of the same name written by Yeon Sang-ho in 2018, this work attracted over 1.076 million viewers when it was released domestically last September.
〈The Ugly〉 is a mystery thriller in which Lim Dong-hwan (Park Jung-min), the son of a seal carving master Lim Young-kyu (Kwon Hae-hyo), investigates the truth behind the death of his mother Jeong Young-hee (Shin Hyun-bin), who was discovered as a skeleton after 40 years.
In the non-English show category, the Korean superhero film 〈Cashero〉, starring Lee Junho, ranked fourth with 2.3 million views, while the Netflix variety show 〈Culinary Class Wars〉 came in fifth. ENA drama 〈Idol I〉 (7th), SBS drama 〈Dynamite Kiss〉 (8th), and tvN drama 〈Pro Bono〉 (9th) also ranked high in the charts.
