Bae Doona Appointed as Judge for the 76th Berlin International Film Festival... "Third After Lee Young-ae and Bong Joon-ho"

'World Star' Bae Doona will serve as a judge for the Berlin International Film Festival, one of the top three film festivals in the world.

◆ First Korean Actor in 20 Years Since Lee Young-ae On the 28th (local time), the Berlin International Film Festival organizing committee officially announced the list of judges for the competition section of the 76th festival, which will be held next month. According to the announcement, Bae Doona will join the jury led by the German master director Wim Wenders, along with Reynaldo Marcus Green (American director), Min Bahadur Bham (Nepalese director), Shivendra Singh Dungarpur (Indian archivist), Hikari (Japanese director), and Eva Puszczyńska (Polish producer).

This marks the third time a Korean filmmaker has served as a judge in the competition section of the Berlin Film Festival, following actress Lee Young-ae in 2006 and director Bong Joon-ho in 2015. They will evaluate 22 films competing for the festival's highest honor, the Golden Bear.

◆ "An Actor Representing Korea" The festival organizers introduced Bae Doona as "one of the actors representing Korea," stating that she has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Best New Actress at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Best Actress at the Asian Film Awards. They highlighted her international acclaim through works such as 〈Cloud Atlas〉, 〈Jupiter Ascending〉, and the Netflix series 〈Sense8〉, as well as her cross-border projects like Hirokazu Kore-eda's 〈Air Doll〉 and 〈Broker〉.

◆ Korean Films to Shine at Berlin This year, in addition to Bae Doona's appointment as a judge, there were also news of Korean films being invited. Director Hong Sang-soo's new film 〈The Day After〉 has been invited to the Panorama section, while director Jung Ji-young's 〈My Name Is〉 has been invited to the Forum section. Additionally, director Yoo Jae-in's feature debut 〈On the Way to Forgetting〉 will be screened in the Generation 14plus section, which highlights coming-of-age films.

Meanwhile, the 76th Berlin International Film Festival will be held from February 12 to 22 in Berlin, Germany.
