Brendan Fraser, who has transformed into 'a new face of humanism' after winning the Academy Award for Best Actor, offers gentle comfort among the cherry blossoms in Tokyo this time.
The film 〈Rental Family: We Rent Out Families〉 is set to be released on February 25 and is already receiving praise from Korea's representative talented actors and enthusiastic reviews from preview audiences, signaling a warm spring breeze of box office success. With a Rotten Tomatoes popcorn score of 96% and the title of 'Top 10 Best Movies of 2025' selected by the National Board of Review (NBR), the film poses a profound question about what a genuine attitude towards life is for modern people who have lost their way between the fake and the real.
The movie begins with Philip (Brendan Fraser), an unnamed American actor who has lived in Tokyo for seven years, getting a job at a 'Rental Family' company that fills someone's empty space. While acting as 'the needed person' by becoming a parent, sibling, or sometimes a lover in someone else's life, he paradoxically finds the meaning of life and a sense of belonging within those fake relationships. Regarding this, actress Han Ye-ri expressed deep empathy for the film's message of warmth, saying, "Is sincerity important, or is truth important? Responding to someone else's heart means that person has already become precious in my life." Actress Go Ah-sung also praised the film, stating, "The genuine human attitude seen in the eyes of the actors, this is the best movie of the year that conveys people, not just roles."
