Actress Bae Jong-ok transforms into the absolute power Choi Chae-woo, who shakes the business world, in the Netflix series 〈Lady Dua〉, instantly changing the atmosphere of the drama.
Released on Netflix on the 13th, 〈Lady Dua〉 is a mystery thriller that tells the story of a woman, Sarah Kim (played by Shin Hye-sun), who wanted to be a luxury item even if it was fake, and a man, Mu-gyeong (played by Lee Jun-hyuk), who tracks her desires. In this fierce puzzle of desire, Bae Jong-ok plays the role of Chairman Choi Chae-woo, leading Samwol Department Store, receiving praise for perfectly embodying the face of a powerful figure that coexists with coldness and composure.
In the drama, Choi Chae-woo is a character who does not easily trust others, viewing all relationships strictly from a transactional perspective. His willingness to make bold choices, such as destroying evidence for the sake of his and the department store's safety, reveals the ruthless nature of power without reservation. Particularly, his insight into the desires of others makes the character of Choi Chae-woo even more threatening. He quickly sees through Sarah Kim's intentional approach and leads the situation with calculated actions rather than emotions, convincingly portraying why he is referred to as the person with the most power in South Korea.
The confrontation scene with detective Mu-gyeong is where Bae Jong-ok's skills shine the brightest. Even in the tense situation of an intense interrogation, she maintains a relaxed smile and instead takes control of the flow of the game. Her ability to first understand what the opponent wants and use it to turn the situation around compressively showcases the essence of the character Choi Chae-woo, elevating the drama's immersion to its peak.
〈Lady Dua〉 is currently streaming on Netflix.
