BTS’s regular album Vol. 5, “Arirang (ARIRANG),” has reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard main album chart “Billboard 200,” adding another chapter to pop music history.
Group’s All-Time Highest Album-Units Record
On the 30th (local time), U.S. music outlet Billboard announced in a chart preview article that BTS’s “Arirang” has claimed No. 1 on the “Billboard 200.” During the tracking period, the album logged a total of 641,000 album units, the group’s highest total since Billboard began tracking album units in December 2014. In particular, pure album sales made up the largest share at 532,000, while the streaming-equivalent value (SEA) came in at 95,000—also the highest figure for the group—and the remainder was calculated from the digital song download-equivalent value (TEA).
Dominant momentum in physical albums and LP sales
In particular, the group turned in standout results in physical album sales. Of total album sales, physical albums accounted for 516,000 copies, including 208,000 LPs. According to Billboard, this marks the highest LP sales for any group since computerized tracking began in 1991, and it is also an all-time record for the overall weekly LP sales ranking—No. 6—behind Taylor Swift (who holds ranks 1 through 5). Fueled by these commanding physical sales, BTS also claimed the top spot on the “Top Album Sales” chart.
A golden milestone: their seventh overall No. 1 on the “Billboard 200”
With this achievement, BTS completed seven total No. 1s on the “Billboard 200.” After becoming the first K-pop act to reach No. 1 on the chart in 2018 with “LOVE YOURSELF 轉 Tear (LOVE YOURSELF 轉 Tear),” they followed with a run of seven consecutive albums at No. 1—“LOVE YOURSELF 結 ’Answer,’” “MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA,” “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7,” “BE,” and “Proof”—and once again reaffirmed their lasting global impact with this new release.
