If an app that grants wishes in exchange for death were installed on your smartphone, what would you choose?
On the 31st, Netflix announced that it will release a new series, 〈If Wishes Could Kill〉, on April 24, breaking new ground in Korean YA horror. Beyond simple scares, the series will unfold the chilling realities faced by teens and the pain of adolescence with sharp genre tension.
〈If Wishes Could Kill〉 follows high school students who, after being cursed by the wish-granting app ‘If Wishes Could Kill,’ are suddenly told they have a death foretold—and fight desperately to escape it. Unstable emotions that many teens have likely felt at least once—entrance-exam stress, precarious peer relationships, and the growing pains tied to self-identity—come together in a fresh horror premise dubbed the “death app.” In particular, director Park Yun-seo actively used first-person perspective shots and body-cam footage so viewers can experience the horror in real time alongside the characters. Through meticulous atmosphere work, she creates an overwhelming sense of space that maximizes immersion.
〈If Wishes Could Kill〉 spotlights rising stars who will lead the next generation of screens. Actors with solid filmographies—including Jeon So-young, who appeared in the drama 〈Honor: Those Who Stand in Court〉, as well as Kang Mina, Baek Sun-ho, Hyun Woo-seok, and Lee Hyo-je—come together to promise unpredictable synergy. Park Yun-seo, who helmed the project, previously worked as an assistant director on the Netflix series 〈Kingdom〉 (Season 2) and as a co-director on the drama 〈Moving〉, and now makes her first leap to lead-directing with 〈If Wishes Could Kill〉.
The Netflix series 〈If Wishes Could Kill〉 will be released on April 24.
