Actor Yoo Seon-ho is stepping into the spotlight as the star of a highly popular webtoon-based drama that has surpassed 100 million views in cumulative global plays. On the 31st, iWill Media announced that the short-form drama 〈Free in Dreams〉, co-produced with Japan’s terrestrial network TV Tokyo, has wrapped up its global rollout via major short-form platforms worldwide.
The original work with the same title, a Naver Webtoon (Creek & River Entertainment IP), served as the foundation for this project. It boasts a strong global fan base, including 110 million views in Indonesia and 46 million views in North America. During its run, it scored in the high 9s, and it also built explosive momentum by reaching 4,717% of its funding goal through merchandise crowdfunding.
In this production, Yoo Seon-ho plays a mysterious character who offers revenge to a high school girl who is a victim of school bullying through “lucid dreams.” Yoo Seon-ho, who established himself with 〈Under the Queen’s Umbrella〉, 〈A Marriage Contract by Tin Lady Park〉, and more, reunites with director Hwang Dong-seok—who he worked with on the film 〈Billionaire on the Run〉—drawing attention. In addition, rising stars including JustB’s Choo Si-woo, Yeo Joo-ha, and Kwon Chae-won have joined the cast, further heightening the drama’s anticipation.
Previously, on the 24th, 〈Free in Dreams〉 was released simultaneously across Japanese platforms including Bump, as well as iQIYI, ReelShort, iDrama, and Showtime. It will also roll out later in stages through Lezhin Snacks and Vigloo.
