An AI-Developed System for Detecting Illegal Ticket Reselling—Extending Surveillance to the Global Stage
'Korea Music Content Association' (hereafter KMCOPA) is rolling out 'artificial intelligence (AI)' in full scale to stamp out 'illegal ticket resale', a chronic problem at major live events. KMCOPA combines AI and 'optical character recognition (OCR)' with 'SMAIT', its own automated system for responding to illegal resale. This enables it to fully recognize and extract illegal transaction details that were previously shared in image form—so nothing is missed.
With this measure, the scope of surveillance has expanded to an unprecedented level. It not only tracks illegal trades in major domestic secondary marketplaces in real time, but also monitors large overseas platforms such as the U.S. Ticketmaster and Switzerland’s Viagogo, along with illegal transactions on social media (SNS).
A Comprehensive Crackdown Across Online and Offline Channels
'Online real-time surveillance': Close monitoring of domestic and overseas secondary platforms and SNS
'On-site enforcement': Concentrated crackdowns at major events, including the group 'BTS'’s free comeback concert held in Gwanghwamun on the 21st of last month
'On-site campaign rollouts': Promoting a healthy concert-going/performance culture through audience-participation events
KMCOPA 'Ko Ki-ho' said, "Ticket resale on the black market is a clear criminal act that undermines the value of performing arts and disrupts the market," adding, "We will build a healthy ecosystem that goes beyond simple monitoring—protecting both artists and audiences."
