Renowned American rapper and a member of the group Migos, Offset (Offset, 34, real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus), was shot in the state of Florida and rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. With fellow rapper Lil Tjay arrested on brawl charges near the scene, reports suggest the conflict between the two may have sparked the incident.
■ Gunfire in the valet area—Not a tollgate… “No threat to life”
According to AP and major international outlets on August 8 (local time), Offset was shot on Monday night in the valet area of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Offset’s spokesperson officially confirmed, “Offset is currently stable in the hospital and receiving precise monitoring from medical staff.” Police added that his injuries are not life-threatening.
■ Lil Tjay Arrested on ‘Misdemeanor’ Charges at the Scene… Did a $10,000 Debt Start It?
What draws attention is Lil Tjay’s actions. The Seminole Police Department arrested Lil Tjay on misdemeanor charges (disorderly conduct and driving without a license) related to the brawl that occurred shortly before the shooting incident.
Online, claims have been spreading that Lil Tjay had been at odds with Offset because he was unable to get back $10,000 (roughly 13.5 million won) that he lent to Offset starting in 2025. In particular, the situation intensified after unverified message screenshots circulated, claiming that Lil Tjay urged Offset to “pay back the money,” but Offset refused and taunted him with “Get it back in blood.”

■ Lil Tjay’s Side: “No Involvement in the Shooting”… Released After Posting Bail
Lil Tjay’s attorney, Dawn Florio, said, “Lil Tjay did not possess a gun and has no connection to the shooting incident.” In fact, he was charged only with brawl-related offenses rather than gun-related charges, and he was released after posting bail on Tuesday afternoon. Immediately after his release, Lil Tjay told reporters, “I was not involved in any fight,” denying the charges.
■ The Shadow of Gunfire Hanging Over Hip-Hop… Fans ‘Shocked’ by Repeated Tragedies
The incident comes about four years after Takeoff, a member of Migos in 2022, died in a shooting, inflicting even greater trauma on hip-hop fans. After Takeoff’s death, Offset has been building his own musical world by releasing solo albums, including 〈Set It Off〉 in 2023 and 〈Kiari〉 in 2025, and more.
Currently, police are continuing their investigation into another individual detained at the scene, while also working to determine the exact circumstances under which a physical confrontation between Lil Tjay’s group and Offset’s group at the time of the incident escalated into gunfire.
