Coupang Play's new variety show 〈BonjourBakery〉 kicked off its full-fledged bakery operations with its premiere on the 8th.
〈BonjourBakery〉 is set against the backdrop of a "senior dessert café" created by converting an old village grocery store located at the foot of Bangjangsan in Gochang County, North Jeolla Province. Cast members Kim Hee-ae, Cha Seung-won, Kim Seon-ho, and Lee Ki-taek provide French-style desserts and beverages to the village elders, capturing the heartwarming interactions in this feel-good variety show.
The first episode depicted the cast's initial meeting and preparation. Cha Seung-won and Lee Ki-taek, who are in charge of the kitchen, demonstrated their process of learning French baking techniques, while Kim Hee-ae and Kim Seon-ho, responsible for front-of-house service, prepared menu description cards and latte art as they finished getting ready to welcome the elders. Notably, SEVENTEEN member Dino joined as a part-time worker for the day to help with front-of-house duties alongside Kim Seon-ho.
The opening service highlighted the elders' reactions to unfamiliar desserts like crème brûlée and a "Green Barley Field Tart" made using Gochang's local specialties. The episode captured moments of elders using magnifying glasses to read the menu and delighting in new flavors, and it featured a community-bonding scene through a "Galette des Rois" event in which they looked for the pastry containing a hidden chestnut.
The production team said, "We wanted to portray how a café — which might feel unfamiliar to rural elders — can become a place where they freely enjoy desserts and feel happiness," adding, "We aim to show more than just baking: we want to depict the sharing of warmth across generations."
The Coupang Play original variety show 〈BonjourBakery〉 will be released exclusively on Coupang Play every Friday at 4:00 PM.
