Conan O’Brien Joins “Toy Story 5” in a Dashingly New Role as Smart Pants, Promising Fresh Laughs

Conan O’Brien, a TV personality and legendary U.S. talk-show host and comedian, joined 〈Toy Story 5〉 set to be released this year as the voice of Smart Pants. Smart Pants, the film’s new character, is built around a quirky premise: each time the battery starts running low as the toy is pulled out and taken from a rundown storage room after years of being forgotten, it grows sleepy and stumbles over its speech, becoming awkward.

Conan O’Brien, who voices Smart Pants, said, “It’s a toy, but I want people to treat me seriously. If someone doesn’t value my artistry or the effort I put in, I get very angry, and that part is so funny,” highlighting the character’s appeal. He also said he joined through what he called “the shortest meeting of his career,” raising expectations for his performance.

〈Toy Story 5〉 is the latest installment in the franchise, set to hit theaters on June 17. With the arrival of “Lillipad,” a new friend of Bonnie, the story will be filled with toys—including “Jessie,” “Woody,” and “Buzz”—who come together again to face an unprecedented crisis and share an unpredictable journey.
