A family action comedy that blends a thrilling action with a situation comedy built on cooperation between an ex-husband and a current husband.

A comedy-action film depicting an unpredictable rescue operation planned by an ex-husband and a current husband who end up joining forces to save a wife who is kidnapped by a criminal organization—〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉—wrapped up a warm-toned production press conference ahead of its release on Friday, the 19th. At the production press conference for 〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉, Jin Sun-gyu, Gong Myung, Kim Ji-seok, Yoon Kyung-ho, Kang Han-na, Lee Da-hee, Jeon So-min, and director Park Gyu-tae attended and shared a variety of stories about the work, spending a laughter-filled time.

First, director Park Gyu-tae—who has a solid grasp of the comedy genre—said, “The difference is that while it is a situation comedy built on cooperation between an ex-husband and a current husband, it also includes a satisfying action, which makes it different.” He raised expectations by sharing what makes 〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉 uniquely stand out. Next, a keyword talk centered on the intriguing relationships in the film amped up the atmosphere on site. Jin Sun-gyu, who plays Chook-sik, an ex-husband and a narcotics unit detective, said, “He’s an ace detective in the narcotics unit, but outside he looks tough. As an ex-husband, he is a strong-hearted-outer-soft-inner type who loves his daughter too much. I wanted to express him as if he were a real family member,” adding to curiosity about Chook-sik’s upbeat efforts for his family, the kind of person who would not hesitate to go through fire or water for them. Gong Myung, who plays Min-seok, a current husband and a veterinarian, said, “It seems like I’m 90% the same as Min-seok. I acted by reflecting me, and when I worked with other actors, it feels like more of my own self got reflected. Every time I went to the set, I was happy. It was a site where I felt that every moment with actor Jin Sun-gyu was a little too short,” showing confidence with a high sync rate with the character.

Kang Han-na, who plays Si-nae, the ex-wife and the wife of Chook-sik, and also the current wife of Min-seok, said, “Si-nae is Chook-sik’s ex-wife and Min-seok’s current wife. Even in a situation where she is kidnapped, she doesn’t shrink back and stays confident. Every time I went to the filming set, I received a lot of different kinds of love from Chook-sik and Min-seok. There’s a fun dynamic where she shows a chemistry of love and resentment with Chook-sik, and a cute ‘couple-like’ chemistry with Min-seok,” raising expectations for the chemistry among the three actors intertwined as a married unit. Kim Ji-seok, who plays Do-jun, the head of a new-type drug organization, said, “Because he’s the top boss of a new-type drug organization, I wanted to express him flamboyantly on the outside. I used flashy-style accessories to create a hip feel, and I prepared it so it contrasts with Yong-gang, the boss from the older generation.” He detailed his efforts to complete the portrayal of a new kind of crime-organization boss that no one has seen before. Yoon Kyung-ho, who plays Yong-gang, the boss of the Yong-gang faction on the opposite side, said, “Yong-gang is a boss of an outdated drug organization. He’s a lovable character who works hard in many ways to overcome a rapidly changing world. Since he comes back into society after 10 years, he’s like water and oil that doesn’t mix with modern times,” introducing Yong-gang’s charms in the film that you can’t help but like. Meanwhile, Lee Da-hee, who plays Hye-ran, Do-jun’s wife, said, “Hye-ran is the real brain who built the drug organization’s system and is the organization’s power behind the throne. She’s a villain, but the way she meets Do-jun was not something ordinary, and that’s what made me find her attractive.” Jeon So-min, who plays Ara, a reporter from the social affairs department, said, “For the sake of reporting, Ara has a mischievous slyness that she only has—she has a passion that won’t flinch, and she likes Chook-sik’s style. And as she is a reporter, I put in effort such as practicing my voice so I could handle the scenes of article reporting in the film well,” delivering her efforts to showcase the twist appeal of the character who handles the “brain” role in 〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉. Like this, about the contrasting combinations of characters of all kinds, director Park Gyu-tae said, “The characters have a certain age gap among them. Through the relationships between the ex-husband and the current husband, and between the older generation and the younger generation, I wanted to draw the generational conflict in a lively way, too.” With his words as a backdrop, expectations grew for the comedic ensemble that these people—who don’t seem like they could ever harmonize—will put on.

In addition, director Park Gyu-tae, who staged the big-scale action of 〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉 that moves between land, sea, and sky, said, “Action that feels lively unfolds on the ground with chase scenes, at sea with a yacht pursuit sequence, and in the sky with paragliding. When capturing dynamic action, we wanted to express comedic energy by capturing the actors’ expressions,” describing the process that led to the creation of 〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉’s own action, where comedy and action blend in perfect harmony. Finally, Jin Sun-gyu said, “Through 〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉, I want to tell the whole world that Korean comedy is this much fun.” Gong Myung said, “I’m expecting it to bring you a good feeling of laughter.” Kim Ji-seok said, “This is K-comedy.” Yoon Kyung-ho said, “With 〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉, it’s a movie everyone can enjoy, and at some point you’ll be able to find yourself holding your belly and laughing out loud.” Kang Han-na said, “It’s a movie that gets even more fun when many people gather and watch together.” Lee Da-hee said, “I hope it becomes a movie that people can enjoy with their families and friends.” Jeon So-min said, “I’ll give you fun you can’t stop. Thank you for your lots of interest and love.” Director Park Gyu-tae said, “We’re expecting to meet viewers around the world through Netflix, and I hope all the husbands and families will be able to enjoy it together.” With those remarks, he raised worldwide viewers’ expectations for 〈_BRACKET_Husbands_ _RANGLE_BRACKET_〉 and brought the production press conference to a close.
