Comedian Ahn Young-mi has shut down rumors about a “destination birth” for her second child.
Ahn Young-mi’s agency, Media Lab Siso, said on the 22nd, “Her second child is a boy, and the second delivery will be carried out in Korea (South Korea).” It added, “Her husband, who is currently working in the United States, will also return to Korea according to the delivery schedule to stay by his wife’s side and share the joy of the birth.” The remarks come as a clear rebuttal of speculation about a U.S. destination birth that had been spreading online after Ahn Young-mi shared news about her maternity leave.
Earlier, ahead of giving birth in July, Ahn Young-mi took a brief leave from MBC FM4U “Dusiui Daete Ahn Young-mi Imnida,” where she is a host, and began a period of rest. On the 21st, she posted a photo to social media showing herself with her hand resting on her full-term baby bump while holding a cake presented by the radio production team, smiling mischievously. In the caption, she wrote, “I’ll come back after delivering a healthy and strong baby boy.” However, amid the fact that her husband lives in the United States, some raised doubts that she might be away for a long time again so that her second child can also be born in the United States.
Ahn Young-mi married a non-celebrity man who was working in the United States in 2020, and she welcomed her first son in 2023. When Ahn Young-mi left for the U.S. for her first childbirth and became embroiled in the so-called destination birth controversy, her agency explained, “It was a decision made so that she can share the joy of childbirth with her husband, who lives in the U.S. and works there,” and it previously said it would take legal action over the spread of false information and malicious comments. After similar speculation resurfaced following her first child, her agency moved quickly to pin down the location of the delivery as in Korea, and the controversy was put to rest for now.
