First Reactions: Cineplay Critics Rate 〈Supergirl〉

This is a coming-of-age story centered on the bad-girl charm of Kara Joel, and the film works on that level. It pays off even more when paired with 〈Superman〉, since the two are fellow Kryptonians who have lived in completely opposite ways. One of the film's strengths is the bond that forms between two women who come to share the same wounds, along with a story that punishes villains who exploit women, but that strength is diluted late in the film when Lobo's presence becomes dominant. Overall, the action sequences show creative ideas, though a few scenes lack visual clarity, which is disappointing. The film's most dramatic crisis is also resolved rather hastily, making the pace feel rushed.
