'David' Takes on Goliath in a Show of Overwhelming Scale—and Breakneck Tension

The movie 〈David〉, which captures the fated moment of David and Goliath—often cited as the greatest battle in history—is set to open on July 10.

Six newly released stills from 〈David〉, the faceoff between ‘David’ and ‘Goliath’—the symbolic duo at the center of what’s widely regarded as the greatest battle in history and a timeless underdog tale—have been unveiled. The film 〈David〉 tells the story of how an ordinary shepherd David comes face to face with the fate of a king, from the song of his mother to the showdown with Goliath, the giant who terrified the world.

The six stills unveiled this time capture not only the fated clash between ordinary shepherd boy ‘David’ and the giant ‘Goliath,’ who struck fear into the hearts of his enemies, but also battlefield scenery realized on an overwhelming scale, pulling viewers in from the start. First, ‘David’ is shown clutching a stone in his hand, gazing straight ahead with eyes that don’t waver—displaying the boy’s sturdy courage and determination, choosing faith over fear. From beyond a vast flower field stained red, ‘David’s’ back view, staring out at the army stretching endlessly, hints at the beginning of an enormous destiny laid out before the ordinary shepherd boy. In addition, his lone stride through ranks of armed soldiers toward the battlefield delivers the full sense of breakneck tension and taut foreboding.

On the other hand, the armored giant ‘Goliath’ exudes intimidation simply by his presence. In a scene where ‘Goliath’ gently touches the tip of his spear and flashes a relaxed smile, his confidence in absolute power comes through clearly. The moment shows ‘David’ from above, standing amid a neatly arranged line of soldiers, and sparks curiosity about how that historic duel—something many have heard about at least once—will play out on screen. In particular, the scenes that bring a vast battlefield and thousands of troops to the big screen raise expectations for a movie that will complete the most famous duel in human history as a single epic.

Well-made animated feature 〈David〉, which completes an epic underdog story with grand scale and moving music, will meet audiences at theaters nationwide on Friday, July 10, including a Korean-language dubbed version featuring top South Korean artists such as Park Bo-gum, Cha Ji-yeon, and Jang Gwang.
