The next step for the “cathartic investigation” drama: the overwhelming synergy Ahn Bo-hyun and new partner Jung Eun-chae will create

SBS’s mega hit “JaeBokX Cop”, which delivered catharsis to viewers, is finally returning for a second season. Set to air at 9:50 p.m. on August 7, “JaeBokX Cop 2”, armed with a more refined universe and a more powerful scale, is ready to once again take over viewers’ weekend nights.

The original season drew praise for a story in which a reckless chaebol third-generation heir transforms into a special crimes unit detective, then brings down a cartel of evil by marshaling his near-unmatchable wealth and VVIP connections. The astonishing record of a peak 11.0% rating was a clear indicator of the public’s explosive thirst for the so-called “cathartic investigation” genre.

The biggest watch point this season is, without a doubt, the daring shake-up of the cast. As actor Ahn Bo-hyun, who completed the “Jin Soo” character with his inimitable charm, is set to once again anchor the story’s center, Jung Eun-chae has been confirmed to join as the new partner. Jung Eun-chae will play “Joo Hae-ra”, an elite who previously served as a police academy instructor and a seasoned leader of the detectives’ team, upending the drama’s dynamics. The on-screen tension the two actors will bring and their fresh acting ensemble are expected to become “JaeBokX Cop 2”’s strongest ticket-selling asset.

The “original members” that formed the sturdy foundation of the show—such as Kang Sang-jun, Kim Shin-bi, and Jeong Ga-hee—are also returning without wavering, ensuring continuity in the narrative. In addition, Kim Jae-hong, the director who led season 1, and writer Kim Bada, who demonstrated tightly coordinated writing, are teaming up again, previewing the birth of a well-made crime investigation series that surpasses the previous installment.

The production team said, “You can expect a grand scale that overwhelms the previous season, a more intricate battle of wits, and a feast of three-dimensional characters.” With the newly reorganized special crimes unit aiming to once again shake up South Korea with a “box-office hit storm”, attention from inside and outside the broadcasting industry is focused on what comes next.
