Her 15th studio album, “Confessions II,” claims her 10th all-time No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

The history of popular music is divided into before and after “Madonna.” The pop monarch, forever crowned, has reclaimed the top spot on the US “Billboard 200” in a stunning comeback after seven years with her 15th studio album, “Confessions II (CONFESSIONS II)”—proving once again the kind of vitality that is beyond imitation.

The pop empress who transcends the era, ruling four decades in a row

Billboard, a US music trade publication, officially announced through a preview article on the 12th (local time) that “Madonna”’s new release, “Confessions II,” has landed atop “Billboard 200,” the main album chart. It marks a major feat in seven years since “Madame X (Madame X)” released in 2019, and it also stands as a golden milestone—her personal all-time 10th No. 1.

The meaning behind this reclaimed No. 1 goes beyond a simple chart achievement. Having shaken the world with “Like a Virgin” in 1985, she has been recorded as the first artist to produce No. 1 albums on “Billboard 200” across four different decades—stretching from the 1980s to the 2000s, the 2010s, and all the way to the 2020s. In the pop ecosystem, it is an accomplishment that carved out uncharted territory no one else had managed to step into.

The power of physical sales is another point worth noting. According to Billboard’s tracking, “Confessions II” reached a total of 134,000 album units during the period. Of that total, physical album sales accounted for 114,000—an overwhelming majority—while the streaming equivalent units (SEA) logged 19,000. It is a metric that underscores the solid fandom “Madonna” has in the physical album market and the lasting value of her collections.

This 15th studio album is an ambitious follow-up that continues the world of the mega hit “Confessions on a Dance Floor” that dominated clubs worldwide in 2005. It refines the rave and club culture of the 1990s with the sensibilities of the 2020s. A total of 16 tracks—led by the title songs “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Your Love”—have been drawing praise as a pop textbook that keeps evolving through critical acclaim.
