The expanded version of 〈Backrooms〉, titled 〈Backrooms: Extended Cut〉 (Backrooms, directed by Kane Parsons), will open exclusively at CGV in South Korea on Wednesday, Aug. 19, after the original drew 1.21 million moviegoers there. Distributors Bypoem Studio and Revive Contents released the official poster and trailer to announce the release.
〈Backrooms: Extended Cut〉 adds 16 minutes of footage that has never been released, bringing the total runtime to 127 minutes. The film follows Clark and Mary as they confront inexplicable events in a strange space defined by yellow walls and endless fluorescent lights.
The newly released trailer opens with Mary saying she found something, before shifting to a space of repeating yellow walls and fluorescent lights. It shows Clark investigating, flocks of seagulls filling the sky, an unidentified entity rising above a building, Clark running between overturned office furniture and Mary screaming. The trailer also includes copy claiming the film set the record for the largest audience for a foreign horror film in seven years and that it is A24's highest-grossing release.
The film was directed by Kane Parsons and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. A24, Atomic Monster and 21 Laps Entertainment produced the film. 〈Backrooms: Extended Cut〉 will screen exclusively at CGV starting Aug. 19.
