From the prince of the basketball court to an ambassador of beauty
Woo Seo-yoon, 22, the eldest daughter of former national team basketball player 'Woo Ji-won', has offered a new vision of what it means to represent Korean beauty. She captured the top honor — the 'Jin' (眞) crown — at this year’s 'Miss Korea Selection Contest', which marked its 70th edition, drawing widespread public attention.
At the final held Thursday afternoon at COEX in Seoul’s Gangnam district, Woo Seo-yoon was named 'Jin', the competition’s highest honor. She had earlier been selected as 'Seon' (善) in the preliminary rounds for Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon. At the final, she showcased her characteristic intelligence and elegance, winning overwhelming support from the judging panel.
Woo Seo-yoon, who is studying art at the prestigious U.S. institution 'Tufts University', is regarded as more than a beauty pageant contestant — she is seen as a talent who combines intellect with artistic sensibility. She previously appeared with her father on SBS’ 'Star Junior Show', winning over viewers with her charm. More recently, she drew attention by sharing an update on her more mature life through Season 2 of tvN STORY and E Channel’s 'My Child’s Love Life'.
The '70th Miss Korea Selection Contest', organized by Global E&B, focused on highlighting the diverse appeal of modern women beyond traditional standards of beauty. Oh Su-min, 25, representing Jeolla, Gwangju and Jeju, was named 'Seon', while Lee Min-sol, 21, representing Busan and Ulsan, took 'Mi' (美), bringing the competition to a close alongside Woo Seo-yoon.
