Overwork triggers grotesque physical changes in ‘Mutation,’ a burnout body horror film set for November release

The body horror film 〈‘Mutation’〉, made for a new generation, is set for release in November.

The film 〈‘Mutation’〉 confirmed its South Korean release for November on Sept. 14 and unveiled its first poster and teaser trailer. The film, which met South Korean audiences at the 30th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, bills itself as a “burnout body horror” story in which Margo, an emergency room intern, witnesses unexplained symptoms in young patients suffering from extreme overwork before similarly inexplicable and bizarre changes begin in her own body.

The teaser poster and trailer released alongside the November release announcement are fueling audience curiosity. The poster hints that the extreme circumstances will continue through a reflection in an eyeball transformed by a purple hue. The trailer contrasts an anxious Margo, frustrated that she cannot perform as well as she wants, with a fast-food worker struggling to handle a flood of customers, foreshadowing a crisis that steadily intensifies.

With the tagline, “Face a new horror at the end of extreme overwork,” 〈‘Mutation’〉 transforms the stress experienced by countless office workers and other working people into body horror. The film will be in theaters this November.
