TVING announced on the 15th that it is reviving the legendary MBC horror drama 〈M〉, which shook South Korea in 1994, as the TVING original series 〈M: Reboot〉. Jung Chae-yeon and Jung Gun-joo have been cast, and the series is slated to premiere in 2027.
〈M: Reboot〉 is a horror-thriller in which a mysterious personality known as "M" awakens inside the body of an up-and-coming ballerina, Mari (Jung Chae-yeon), and Detective Ji-seok (Jung Gun-joo), who chases lingering flashes of green light, are drawn into a string of bizarre incidents. The remake updates the original story (written by Lee Hong-gu), which caused a sensation with its provocative subject matter, with a contemporary sensibility, aiming to create a new generation's 〈M〉.
Actor Jung Chae-yeon will play three roles for the first time in her career: high school ballerina Mari, the enigmatic genius surgeon Jenny, and the mysterious personality "M." She portrays a woman whose life is upended when "M" awakens while she is tormented by nightmares ahead of a world-class ballet school audition. Jung said, "I'm excited and happy that I can show a new side of myself. I'll return showing even more growth."
Actor Jung Gun-joo will play ace detective Ji-seok, who digs into the heart of the case. After Jenny's appearance, he confronts inexplicable incidents and an unidentified green light while pursuing the truth from 10 years ago. Taking on his first detective role, Jung said, "I'm preparing hard and will do my best to show a good performance."
The series will be directed by Lim Dae-woong, who has established himself in the horror-thriller genre with 〈Cheongdam International High School 2〉, 〈Night Has Fallen〉, and the film 〈The Teacher's Grace〉. The screenplay will be written by Hong Eun-mi (writer of the films 〈Hidden Face〉 and 〈Missing: The Woman Who Disappeared〉) together with rising writer Lee Jeong-eun to heighten the psychological horror.
The green-hued horror-thriller 〈M: Reboot〉 will premiere on TVING in 2027.
