From idol to actor: Jun takes on a high-stakes revenge thriller

Jun, the Chinese member of global K-pop powerhouse SEVENTEEN, is set to make a major push onto China’s big screen. Pledis Entertainment officially announced on the 21st that Jun will appear in the crime-action film ‘Rebirth 2’, which opens nationwide in China on the third of next month.

‘Rebirth 2’ is a blockbuster-scale film about a man and a woman who wage a desperate battle for revenge as they relentlessly uncover a hidden conspiracy within a vast criminal organization. Jun plays Su Cheng, a protagonist who travels across China and repeatedly risks his life in search of his missing younger brother. He is expected to shed his glamorous onstage idol image and deliver both nuanced emotional acting and gritty action sequences.

The film has assembled an impressive cast of leading veteran actors from the Chinese-speaking world. Global star Isabella Leong, who made a strong impression in the Hollywood blockbuster ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’, shares a close on-screen rapport with Jun, heightening the film’s intensity. Hong Kong action-film legend Sammo Hung and Bai Ke, who has demonstrated a singular ability to inhabit distinctive characters, also join the cast, adding further weight to the production.

Jun is also moving decisively to cement his standing as an actor. He was officially invited as an international ambassador to the 13th Silk Road International Film Festival, held with great fanfare in Xi’an, China, from the 19th through the 20th. He made a dazzling appearance on the opening ceremony’s red carpet, commanding the attention of local media and fans and demonstrating his considerable influence.
