Sinchon's revival: A new gateway for K-pop stars

'Hyundai Department Store's Sinchon store' will transform Star Square in front of U-PLEX into a stage for youth and passion every Friday starting next month. The store is officially launching the 'Sinchon K-pop Show,' offering idol groups from 'small and midsize agencies' a dream stage and visitors high-quality cultural content.

The irregular K-pop performances, which began as a pilot program in July, drew 'more than 1,000' spectators each time and generated an enthusiastic response. In response, Hyundai Department Store announced on the 22nd that it would make the performances a regular event, signaling the revival of the Sinchon commercial district.

The project goes beyond simply providing a venue. Along with dazzling performances by idol groups, it will feature a range of programs, including fan-signing events and photo sessions. Hyundai Department Store will cover 'all costs' from stage installation through event operations, offering an unusually strong partnership initiative to ease the financial burden on small and midsize agencies.

Its global reach has already been demonstrated. A total of '108 teams from 11 countries' entered the online preliminary round of a K-pop competition for trainees and aspiring performers. Some contestants who advanced to the finals after overcoming fierce competition have even been recruited by entertainment agencies, underscoring the show's role as a 'nursery for discovering new talent.'

Next year, the store plans to expand the competition's scale and stature through strategic partnerships with overseas K-pop academies. Its goal is to establish Sinchon as a global K-pop destination.

Lee Hee-seok, head of Hyundai Department Store's Sinchon store, said, "We created this project to offer customers visiting Sinchon a different level of enjoyment and artists from small and midsize agencies a valuable opportunity to connect with the public." He added, "We will continue to discover distinctive and differentiated 'K-pop content' and transform Sinchon into a 'global destination' that fans around the world will flock to."
