“Bangbong” set to appear at Seokchon Lake starting the 14th... Lotte Department Store’s BigBang 20th anniversary project

For 10 days, the retailer will roll out a media exhibition and limited-edition goods across Lotte World Mall and AvenueEL in the area

When the retail industry and a symbol of K-pop come together, they build a massive cultural spectacle. Lotte Department Store will transform Seokchon Lake, Lotte World Mall, and the AvenueEL area into a setting for a major celebration from the 14th to the 23rd to mark the 20th anniversary of the global artist 'BIGBANG''s debut.

Golden ripples that wash over Seokchon Lake... The evolution of K-pop IP and retail

The standout feature of this project is the signature lighting content that will cover Seokchon Lake over the period. The Dongho riverside stage area will apply overwhelming nighttime lighting production inspired by 'Bangbong', the official cheering light stick of 'BIGBANG', strongly tapping into fans’ nostalgia for 'VIP (Very Important People)'.

A sensory plan that goes beyond simple viewing also stands out, satisfying both taste and desire to own at the same time. On the first basement floor of Lotte World Mall, popular bakery brands will take part to unveil limited-edition desserts using the 20th anniversary intellectual property (IP). Meanwhile, about 40 eateries will have special napkins available, giving the entire space a themed feel. In addition, the special pop-up store is set to sell 'limited-edition goods' that have never been released to the public until now on an exclusive basis.

A 20-year trajectory launched into space, immersive art exhibition 'The COSMOS'

A fifth-floor bridge connecting the Jamsil AvenueEL and Lotte World Mall will be filled with advanced media art. 'Bigbang to COSMOS', a media art that converts 'Arecibo Code'—a radio-wave format that sends the cheering messages fans share into space—will visualize the interaction between the artist and fans.

Next, the immersive exhibition 'The COSMOS (the COSMOS)' held at the 6th-floor Art Hall at AvenueEL is the highlight space that brings together the trajectory of the past 20 years. Rare archival videos, performance behind-the-scenes footage, and a large number of previously unreleased still photos will be released in bulk, and a 'listening zone' where visitors can appreciate the details of music in high-quality sound will perfectly capture guests’ sense of hearing.

Park Sang-woo, head of marketing at Lotte Department Store, said, "This collaboration with YG Entertainment commemorates the 20th anniversary of 'BIGBANG', which has a solid global fandom. At the same time, it is an innovative attempt that breaks down the boundary between cultural content and distribution," adding, "We expect to provide domestic and international visitors with new experiential value for K-pop content and drive explosive public response."
