Live-Action Junji Ito Anthology Series ‘Strange’ Debuts on Wavve Today

The 11-episode horror anthology adapts 13 short stories, with IVE and 10CM contributing to the soundtrack

Wavve, an online video streaming service (OTT), is exclusively releasing 〈Strange: Junji Ito's Sleepless, Bizarre Tales〉 (hereafter 〈Strange〉), an anthology horror series adapted from the works of Japanese horror manga master Junji Ito.

〈Strange〉 is an 11-episode live-action series based on 13 short manga stories by Junji Ito, whose work aired on Japan's TV Tokyo. The series brings to live action Ito's bizarre, distinctive world of anxiety and madness, known from works including 〈Tomie〉, 〈Uzumaki〉 and 〈The Hanging Balloons〉.

The series is also drawing attention for its star-studded soundtrack lineup. IVE contributed “JIGSAW” as the opening theme, while singer-songwriter 10CM's “The Darkest Night” serves as the closing theme. News of IVE's participation particularly caught the attention of fans in both South Korea and Japan, prompting original creator Junji Ito to respond by personally drawing illustrations of the IVE members.

A Wavve official said, “We expect the series to provide an intense viewing experience not only for fans of the horror genre but also for viewers encountering Junji Ito's work for the first time.” The anthology horror series 〈Strange〉 is currently available to watch on demand through Wavve.
