Choi Min-sik Recommends Han Ji-eun for 'The Intern' as Film Reveals Fun Behind-the-Scenes TMI

The film 〈The Intern〉, directed by Kim Do-young, is climbing the box office rankings and has revealed intriguing behind-the-scenes TMI following its release. Anthology Studio Co., Ltd., which produced the film, and distributor Warner Bros. Korea Co., Ltd. shared details on the ad-libs and special appearances involving lead actors Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee on the 22nd.

〈The Intern〉 follows the office life that unfolds when Ki-ho (Choi Min-sik), a silver intern with 37 years of work experience, joins the company Utootoo, run by Sun-woo (Han So-hee), a young CEO who built a fashion brand. The film reinterprets the original movie for the realities of Korea.

Choi Min-sik, who plays Utootoo's oldest intern, Ki-ho, added an ad-lib to a scene featuring a motion desk and personally suggested replacing the handkerchief from the original with a tissue. Witty lines that convey his character's age and experience, including “sending a cuckoo” and “soong-guri dang-dang,” also came from him. The dance to aespa's “Whiplash” that Han So-hee, who plays CEO Sun-woo, performs at a party and the scene in which she sings Carnival's “Dream of a Goose” while working late also create unexpected laughs through the combination of the actors' performances and the direction.

The behind-the-scenes stories of the special appearances were also revealed. Han Ji-eun was cast as Baek Ru-da, Utootoo's exclusive model, at the recommendation of actor Choi Min-sik. Jo Yoon-hee, the real-life wife of actor Kwon Hae-hyo, appears in a photograph as Ki-ho's wife, whom he misses, adding to the story.

〈The Intern〉, starring Choi Min-sik, Han So-hee, Kim Jun-han and Ryu Hye-young, is currently playing in theaters.
