The 'Iron Man' stops: Unprecedented full suspension of schedules since his debut
Broadcaster 'Yoo Jae-suk' (54), known as the 'Iron Man' of South Korea's television industry, abruptly canceled a scheduled shoot the same day for health reasons. The decision is highly unusual and has few precedents in broadcasting history since he made his debut at the first KBS College Gag Festival in 1991.
'Yoo Jae-suk''s agency, 'Antenna', announced in an official statement on the 22nd, "Yoo Jae-suk was forced to cancel today's shoot because of severe flu-like symptoms and a temporary high fever." His sudden decision to take a break has drawn attention from both the broadcasting industry and the public, given his reputation for rigorous self-care.
He had originally been scheduled to film Season 5 of the SBS variety show 'Whenever There's a Chance,' at an undisclosed location in Seoul that day. However, his condition worsened sharply just before filming, and he reportedly apologized directly to the on-site staff before leaving.
The production team for 'Whenever There's a Chance,' said, "This was an unavoidable situation that arose just before filming, and the cast's health is our top priority." It added, "We will communicate closely with everyone involved and finalize a new filming date soon."
'Yoo Jae-suk' is currently resting and focusing on his recovery. Several of the flagship variety programs he hosts, including KBS 2TV's 'Happy Together: Glad I'm Not Alone', MBC's 'What Do You Do?', tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' and 'Sixth Sense: B-Side', are also monitoring his condition closely and coordinating their upcoming schedules, according to reports.
