'Meryl Streep Project,' Documentary Born of 10-Year Quest and Support from 1,619 to Open in October

The most personal of projects, yet one born with the help of many people, 〈Meryl Streep Project〉 will open in October.

The documentary 〈Meryl Streep Project〉 tells the autobiographical story of director Park Hyo-sun, who became fascinated with Meryl Streep after accidentally seeing one of the actress's films in middle school. It follows her effort to achieve her goal of meeting Streep. What began as Park's personal wish gradually took a different direction as she shared her admiration with fellow filmmakers, inspiring support from many people.

Park Hyo-sun's 10-year journey toward meeting Meryl Streep was completed not only through her own determination but also with help from many people who empathized with her passion. A crowdfunding campaign for the film drew 1,619 participants and raised more than 62 million won. That led to official screenings as an invited feature at the 50th Seoul Independent Film Festival, the 27th Seoul International Women's Film Festival and the 16th Gwangju Women's Film Festival. Actors Moon So-ri, Lim Ye-jin and Son Su-hyun also lent their support.

“From filming and crowdfunding to the upcoming release, so many people told me that this was also their story,” director Park Hyo-sun said. 〈Meryl Streep Project〉, which captures what may seem like a reckless 10-year challenge, will arrive in theaters nationwide this October.
