'Tazza: Song of Belzebub' Tops 1 Million in 8 Days With Twist-Filled Revenge

Starring Byun Yo-han and Noh Jae-won, film posts 93% CGV Egg Index and signals strong staying power

The crime-action film 'Tazza: Song of Belzebub', led by actors 'Byun Yo-han' and 'Noh Jae-won', has topped '1 million viewers' just eight days after its release, making waves at the box office.

According to official figures released Tuesday by distributor CJ ENM, 'Tazza: Song of Belzebub', which opened in theaters on the 23rd, surpassed 1 million viewers by that afternoon. The milestone reflects positive word of mouth generated by its solid source material and fast-paced direction, which has drawn actual moviegoers to theaters.

Adapted for the screen from the comic of the same name by Heo Young-man, a giant of South Korea's comics industry, the film follows Jang Tae-young ('Byun Yo-han'), who rose to the top through an online casino business, as he reunites with his former friend Park Tae-young ('Noh Jae-won'), the man who took everything from him, in the global gambling circuit. The fierce battle of wits and psychological warfare between the two men, whose next moves are impossible to predict, gives audiences an intensely immersive experience.

Director 'Choi Kook-hee' drew on the exceptional filmmaking skills he demonstrated in his previous films 'Default' (2018) and 'Life Is Beautiful' (2022) to give the potentially clichéd subject of gambling a stylish, sophisticated visual treatment. The cast of distinctive supporting actors, including Jo Woo-jin, Yoon Kyun-ho, Miyoshi Ayaka and Moon Ji-hoon (rapper Swings), further raised the film's intensity.

'Tazza: Song of Belzebub' is currently earning recognition for both its artistic merit and broad appeal, maintaining a strong '93% CGV Egg Index', a measure of satisfaction among actual moviegoers. After its explosive opening score, the film has continued to hold its ratings firmly, prompting close attention to its prospects for a sustained box-office run.
