G-Dragon, YG put copyright dispute to rest after six-month probe

Mapo Police decide in April not to refer the case, finding no wrongdoing despite two raids

'G-Dragon' (Kwon Ji-yong) and 'Yang Hyun-suk', executive producer of YG Entertainment, have been fully cleared of allegations of violating the 'Copyright Act'. Innocence established after intensive investigation

A composer filed a police complaint against the two last November, alleging that they had copied and used songs he worked on without permission. Police conducted a wide-ranging investigation in light of the seriousness of the allegations. Investigators also carried out two raids, including at YG Entertainment's headquarters, but found no evidence proving that a crime had been committed.

After reviewing the results of the seized-material analysis and statements from people involved in the case, police concluded that there was insufficient legal basis to support the complainant's claims and closed the case with a final finding of 'no charges'. The decision clears 'G-Dragon' and YG Entertainment of lingering copyright-related allegations and provides legal vindication.

Meanwhile, 'G-Dragon', who has reduced his legal risks with the decision, has returned to his usual work and is focusing on a new album. The domestic and international music industries are once again watching the next steps of an artist who has long enjoyed the steadfast trust of the public and critics.
