Beyond pop-ups: A new foothold for JYP's localization strategy
JYP Entertainment has opened its first official permanent store in a prime Tokyo commercial district as it moves to engage the city's K-pop fans. JYP said on the 13th that it officially opened 'JYP Flagship Tokyo' (JYP FLAGSHIP TOKYO) in Tokyo's Daikanyama on the 10th.
The newly opened 'JYP Flagship Tokyo' is notable for moving beyond the short-term pop-up store model. It was designed as a 'permanent store' where fans can visit and connect with the artists 365 days a year. Daikanyama, where the store is located, is one of Tokyo's trendsetting districts, known for its sophisticated culture. The area is viewed as a strategic location that will further elevate JYP's brand value in Japan.
The interior is divided into four main areas designed to offer fans a range of experiences. They include an 'MD booth' stocked with limited-edition items available only at the store; a 'cafe' serving drinks inspired by the artists' themes; and a 'workshop area' where visitors can make their own original keychains. The store also operates a 'photo and media booth' that offers visitors an experience of being with the artists, as well as a pop-up corner featuring new content at set intervals.
JYP said the flagship store would "significantly expand its offline touchpoints with fans through a space they can visit anytime, rather than limiting the experience to a one-time event," adding that it would "maximize the satisfaction of its global fandom through continuous content updates." Backed by the strong presence of artists such as TWICE, Stray Kids and NiziU in Japan, the flagship store is expected to become a new landmark for K-pop culture.
