47th Blue Dragon Film Awards Opens Fan Voting; Two Popular Star Awards to Be Decided Entirely by Fans

Fan voting to determine the winners of the 47th Blue Dragon Film Awards opened on Nov. 2.

According to the awards organizers, voting is being held on the Celeb Champ mobile app across 16 categories. Voting deadlines vary by category. Voting in six categories—Cinematography and Lighting, Screenplay, Music, Art Direction, Editing and Technical Award—closes first, at midnight on Nov. 12. Voting in the 10 major categories—Best Picture, Best Director, Best New Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best New Actor, Best New Actress and the Chung Jung One Popular Star Award—remains open until midnight on Nov. 24, the night before the ceremony.

Fans’ choices have a substantial impact on the final results. Winners in 15 categories, excluding the Chung Jung One Popular Star Award, are determined by combining the votes of the expert judging panel and fans. The combined fan-vote results carry the same weight as the vote of one expert judge. Of the four Chung Jung One Popular Star Awards, one male and one female winner are selected solely based on Celeb Champ fan-voting results. The other two are chosen based on voting results combined with evaluations by the Sports Chosun press corps and experts.

The Blue Dragon Film Awards maintains its tradition of fair and transparent judging through a “real-name judging system,” publishing the full list of judges and judging results after each year’s ceremony. The aim is to enhance the awards’ prestige by giving equal consideration to experts’ detailed assessments and the public’s opinions. The 47th Blue Dragon Film Awards, which looks back on the year in Korean cinema, will be held in a gala ceremony on Nov. 25 at KBS Hall in Yeouido and broadcast live on KBS2.
