Actor Lee Se-young is set to undergo a striking transformation in the Disney+ original series 〈The Remarried Empress〉 (The Remarried Empress). Her agency, Fantagio, said Lee will appear before viewers around the world as Rashta, a former runaway slave who becomes the emperor’s mistress, in 〈The Remarried Empress〉, which premieres on the 4th.
〈The Remarried Empress〉 is an epic romantic fantasy about Navier (Shin Min-a), the perfect empress of the Dongdae Empire, who is told by Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon)—who has fallen for the runaway slave Rashta (Lee Se-young)—that he wants a divorce. Rather than simply accept, Navier asks for permission to remarry Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom. The first live-action adaptation of the globally popular web novel and webtoon of the same name, the series drew considerable attention from the casting stage onward.
Rashta, played by Lee Se-young, is a complex character who escapes the oppression of her past and experiences the power and splendor she was denied, only to become increasingly consumed by uncontrollable desire and commit one misdeed after another. In a previously released teaser, she gives Navier an innocent look and asks, “Would it be okay if I called you ‘unnie’?” The scene hinted at her close resemblance to the original character and the tension to come.
Lee Se-young has demonstrated her acting range across historical and contemporary dramas, including 〈The Red Sleeve〉, 〈The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract〉, 〈What Comes After Love〉 and 〈Motel California〉. In this project, she is expected to vividly portray a layered inner life where innocence and greed coexist.
Meanwhile, the Disney+ original series 〈The Remarried Empress〉 will premiere episodes 1–4 all at once on November 4, followed by two episodes every Wednesday, for a total of 10 episodes, reaching viewers around the world.
