[Seong Chan-eol’s Comics] I hesitated to recommend it, but 30,000 moviegoers leaves me saying ‘Give it a try’: 「The Dangers in My Heart」

I go crazy for subculture. I check out anything with fresh stories, settings or characters — not only films but webtoons, games, comics and animation. I entered the world of fandom through comics: as an adult I read comics as e-books and webtoons on my smartphone, a self-described 'kidult.' But it's less fun alone. I write Seong Chan-eol's Comics to share things that are more enjoyable together, seen from the perspective of an omnivorous fan.
To be frank, this is one of my current favorite comics, but it’s one I avoided writing about for a while. It’s wildly fun and genuinely heart-fluttering, but the barrier to entry is high. If even I, a fan of the series, felt that hesitation, I wasn’t sure how many readers would go along with it.

I can’t stop fixating on the objects in the movies. I get pulled into deep thought over why—director, cinematographer, production designer, maybe even an actor—someone put that object in front of the camera. “Joo Seong-cheol’s Locker” is a record of the objects from films that landed in my eyes, as if they gently stepped over them.
〈Toy Story 2〉 (1999)’s opening begins as if it were a scene from the 〈Star Wars〉 series. And in the moment of crisis, Woody recites the lines “Think about it, think about it,” like the way Dong-su (Kim Sang-kyung) does in 〈Theater Jeon〉 (2005) or Yeon-hong (Son Ye-jin) does in 〈No Secrets〉 (2016).

If someone asked me to sum up this comic, I'd probably hesitate and finally say, "It's fun. " It is fun. But it's not easy to explain. When I try to list impressions I come up with words that don't normally go together—funny, sweet, scary, brutal—so it's hard to convey.
