Cha Eun-woo Did It Too! The Netflix OST Challenge Craze

Challenge content utilizing the original soundtrack (OST) of the Netflix animated film <K-Pop Demon Hunters> is gaining explosive popularity among K-pop stars.

According to the music industry on the 14th, singer and actor Cha Eun-woo's 'Soda Pop' challenge video, showcased at a fan meeting on the 12th, has surpassed 1.5 million views on YouTube, creating a buzz.

In the 20-second video, Cha Eun-woo wears an outfit reminiscent of a prince and showcases precise choreography. After finishing the dance, his shy gesture of turning his head drew a passionate response from fans. Comments such as "This is the live-action version of the animation" and "Cha Eun-woo is different" followed on the video.

'Soda Pop' is the representative song of the Grim Reaper boy group, Reaper Boys, featured in 'K-Pop Demon Hunters'. Thanks to its lively atmosphere and easy-to-follow choreography, many male groups including BOYNEXTDOOR, PLAVE, RISE, ZEROBASEONE, and TO1 have joined the challenge. The girl group Fifty Fifty's Moon Chanel also participated, and BTS's RM drew fans' attention by singing along to 'Soda Pop' during a live broadcast.

MONSTA X's Hyungwon, Kihyun, and Jooheon recorded 9.6 million views on TikTok with their challenge of Reaper Boys' other song 'Your Idol'. The three members caught fans' eyes by dressing up as grim reapers in black robes and hats.

The girl group Huntrix, which competes with Reaper Boys in the story, is gaining popularity among singers wanting to showcase their vocal skills with their song 'Golden'. Urban Zakapa's Kwon Soon-il posted a video of himself singing the chorus of 'Golden' in his studio on Instagram and YouTube, surpassing a total of 2.5 million views.

Kwon Soon-il attracted attention by maintaining the original pitch of the song sung by female singers while hitting high notes. American actor Arden Cho, who voiced Huntrix member Lumi, commented on Kwon Soon-il's Instagram, saying, "I can't believe it," and asked, "Isn't that Lumi?"

Lily of the girl group NMIXX achieved 10 million views on TikTok with a video of her singing the chorus of 'Golden' in a practice room. TWICE's Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung recorded a video of themselves dancing and recording Huntrix's 'Takedown', which surpassed 20 million views on TikTok.

<K-Pop Demon Hunters> has made a global impact since its release last month, reaching number one in the Netflix film category. The OST's seven songs set a record by entering the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously, and the OST album reached number two on the main album chart, the Billboard 200.

According to American media 'Variety' and 'Billboard', Netflix plans to submit the OST 'Golden' for Best Original Song at next year's Academy Awards.
