K-Pop Demon Hunters〉Director Maggie Kang: "I Wanted to Capture the Vibrant K-Pop and True Korean Culture"

Maggie Kang, the director of the Netflix animated film 〈K-Pop Demon Hunters〉, revealed the intention behind the project in a behind-the-scenes video released on the 11th. She stated, "We wanted to vividly express the world of K-Pop while also incorporating true Korean elements."

The video detailed the crew's efforts to preserve Korea's unique culture and the distinctive emotions of K-Pop. Director Maggie Kang, who grew up in Canada, was shown visiting Korea to conduct on-site research with the crew for realistic depictions.

The production team meticulously observed everything from traditional Hanok houses to street scenery and even individual bricks, and during a gathering, they experienced local culture by tasting K-Food. These efforts naturally blended into the work, adding realism based on a deep understanding of Korean culture.

Actor Aden Jo, who plays the role of 'Rumi' in 〈K-Pop Demon Hunters〉, evaluated the work as "a piece that perfectly captures Korean culture, from Korean food to the streets of Gangnam."

The two directors who embodied the unique charm of the evil spirit group 'Lion Boys' also shared their thoughts in the behind-the-scenes video. Director Chris Appelhans said, "It was really fun to make Lion Boys sexy." Director Maggie Kang added, "I thought about how to light the abs properly to enjoy it fully."

Additionally, the video included sketches of the recording studio with the actors who played the three-member girl group 'HuntRix' and moments of them taking selfies in front of the microphone. Actress Yoo Ji-young, who plays the youngest member 'Joy', conveyed the diverse charm of the work, saying, "It includes fun, sadness, and action, and we really look cute."
