A 40s woman who habitually defamed actor Gong Yoo was sentenced to probation for a prison term, marking a strong punishment case against malicious comments targeting celebrities.
Management Forest announced on the 29th via SNS that 'the results of the lawsuit against the perpetrator who has been habitually spreading malicious defamation and false information against Gong Yoo since 2020 have been revealed.'
Judge Jang Won-ji of the Daejeon District Court's Criminal Division 5 sentenced a 48-year-old woman, referred to as A, to 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation for charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. The court seems to have determined that A's actions were persistent and malicious.
A's actions were quite systematic. Starting with a false comment claiming 'I was harassed and monitored' during Gong Yoo's live broadcast in January 2020, it was confirmed that she posted malicious articles on the internet a total of 235 times over approximately 1 year and 2 months until March 2021.
The agency explained that 'the perpetrator seriously damaged the actor's reputation by repeatedly posting articles and comments containing false information' and that 'the court clearly recognized the malice and seriousness of the crime.'
In particular, Management Forest clarified its future response policy. 'We will conduct ongoing monitoring of our affiliated actors and will firmly respond to malicious posts under the same principles,' emphasizing that 'we will continue to take strong measures without any leniency or compromise, including ongoing cases.'
