Actor Lee Byung-hun has been honored as the recipient of the 'TIFF Tribute Awards', which corresponds to the Special Contribution Award at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The Toronto International Film Festival organizing committee officially announced on the 5th through its website that four individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of cinema have been selected as recipients of the 'TIFF Tribute Awards'. Lee Byung-hun joins the list of awardees alongside director Guillermo del Toro, director Hikari, and Hollywood actress Jodie Foster.

A festival official explained, "This year's awardees are individuals who have left a clear and lasting mark on the film industry." In particular, Lee Byung-hun was highly praised as a "global star who has achieved great success in both film and series, effortlessly crossing between Korea and Hollywood based on his overwhelming acting skills and talent."

The festival also added, "We are very pleased to honor the unique vision and boundless imagination of director Guillermo del Toro, the emotional and delicate storytelling of director Hikari, and the unparalleled and long-standing career of Jodie Foster."

The 50th Toronto International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from the 4th to the 14th of next month in Toronto, Canada. The 'TIFF Tribute Awards' ceremony will be held on the 7th during the festival period.

Meanwhile, Lee Byung-hun's latest film directed by Park Chan-wook, 〈No Other Choice〉, has been officially invited as a North American gala premiere screening at this Toronto Film Festival.
