The legal attempt by the religious group related to the Christian Gospel Mission (JMS) to block the airing of the Netflix documentary 〈I Am a Survivor〉 has failed.
The 21st Civil Division of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Jeon Bo-seong) dismissed the injunction request filed by the JMS against Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on the 12th. The court stated, "Based on the materials submitted so far, it cannot be concluded that the claims made by the religious group are included in the incident video or constitute false facts."
JMS previously claimed during the injunction hearing that "the production team is making false allegations and damaging the reputation of JMS members and the organization." However, the court found that sufficient evidence for these claims was not presented.
Meanwhile, MBC has maintained that it transferred the copyright of the documentary to Netflix, thus the streaming rights are entirely with Netflix, and they have no related rights. In response, JMS also filed a separate broadcast ban injunction against Netflix, but withdrew the request after the court pointed out that it was not under its jurisdiction.

In addition to the religious group, the JMS Association of Believers and former JMS members also applied for the same injunction, but it has been reported that they have all withdrawn their requests. Accordingly, the documentary is scheduled to be released as planned on the 15th.
The controversial 〈I Am a Survivor〉 is a sequel to the Netflix documentary series 〈I Am God〉, which was released in 2023 and caused a social stir. This work includes testimonies from survivors of four major incidents: JMS, Busan Brothers Home, the Jisunpa incident, and the collapse of the Sampoong Department Store, and is expected to attract social attention once again.
