A high school romance that evokes 90s retro nostalgia is coming this last weekend of August. The protagonist's struggles with a tangled confession and unrequited love are highly anticipated. 〈Ju-on〉, 〈Ring〉, which seemed like generic horror films, are knocking on the door of the living room with J-horror that becomes blood and flesh. It's a horror movie, but it leaves you with a feeling that you should live your life more earnestly after watching it. Don't understand what that means? Just watch the movie, and you'll know. The Marvel version of 'Bad Guys' is making its OTT debut. A must-watch before next year's release of 〈Avengers: Doomsday〉! Let's comfortably review it at home.

A fresh and exciting youth romance is coming to OTT this week. The Netflix original Korean film 〈Love Untangled〉 tells the story of 19-year-old girl Park Se-ri (Shin Eun-soo) who, before her once-in-a-lifetime confession, plans a strategy to straighten her lifelong complex of curly hair while getting entangled with transfer student Han Yoon-seok (Gong Myung). Se-ri falls in love at first sight with the school's most popular guy, Kim Hyun (Cha Woo-min). With a success rate of 0%, she can no longer suffer in silence and decides to confess. The biggest obstacle to her confession is her curly hair that won't straighten no matter how hard she tries, and the transfer student Yoon-seok, who has been watching Se-ri, inadvertently joins her grand confession operation.
Director Namgoong Sun, who has portrayed the stories of youth in a unique way in films like 〈Ten Months in the Future〉 and 〈Time to Get Up〉, creates a high school romance that keeps you awake at night with unrequited love. With relatable characters and witty dialogue, it reflects on the history of confessions. The role of the protagonist girl Se-ri, who struggles with her curly hair during the grand confession operation, is played by Shin Eun-soo. Her cute and lovable performance not only adds to the fun of the film but also warmly brings back the feelings of unrequited love that linger in everyone's hearts from that time. The chemistry with Gong Myung, who plays the transfer student Yoon-seok with a story from Seoul, is also a must-see point as they embark on a chaotic confession operation together. The production that perfectly recreates 1998 and the retro vibe of the film will also draw you deeper into 〈Love Untangled〉.

Who will protect the Marvel universe now that the Avengers are gone? In response to that question, the bad guys, who have no superpowers and are not heroes, step up. 〈Thunderbolts*〉, premiering on Disney+ on August 27, tells the story of a group of oddballs from Marvel, including former spies, assassins, and hitmen, who come together to save a world in danger. Characters who have played villains in various Marvel works, such as the Winter Soldier from 〈Captain America〉, the Red Guardian from 〈Black Widow〉, Taskmaster, and Ghost from 〈Ant-Man and the Wasp〉, come together to try to do good this time. Of course, it's not easy.
〈Thunderbolts*〉 breathes new life into Marvel films that have been lacking in quality, receiving decent reviews from critics. Especially, the process of outsiders, who had fallen into defeatism, giving each other strength and inspiration and transforming into one team evokes both comedy and poignant emotion. Additionally, a new character with tremendous power named Sentry appears, hinting at the upcoming grand performance in 〈Avengers: Doomsday〉. 〈Thunderbolts*〉 offers not only the action and spectacle of a superhero film but also unexpected emotional depth dramatically. Be sure to check out the meaning of the '*' revealed at the end of the film.

Sayuri – A Bizarre Horror That Adds Tension to the Loosened J-Horror

The Kamiki family moves into their dream home. However, strange laughter is heard from somewhere, and the family members are killed one by one. Now, the only ones left are a grandmother with dementia and her middle school grandson. They discover that all the tragedies are due to the vengeful spirit Sayuri, and from this point on, an unpredictable horror show unfolds.
The Japanese horror film 〈Sayuri〉 starts with a story similar to 〈Ju-on〉 and 〈Ring〉. A cursed house, a family killed by a vengeful spirit for no reason. But they can't just let it happen. From this point on, the film attempts a genre shift with the unstoppable rampage of the 'Tai Chi' grandmother. 〈Sayuri〉 is directed by Koji Shiraishi, who has led the J-horror craze in theaters with films like 〈Somewhere in Kinki〉. He is known for making eerie horror films like 〈Noroi〉, but also for directing bizarre works like 〈Sadako vs. Kayako〉, and this time it leans more towards the latter. It's scary but funny. Plus, it has some inexplicable healthy message(?). It seems like an element that doesn't fit in a horror movie, but it's like enjoying a delicious bibimbap. This strange yet increasingly appealing film 〈Sayuri〉 is something to watch.
