‘The Murky Stream’ Guillermo del Toro's MVP Shin Ye Eun at the Busan International Film Festival Opening Ceremony

The main cast of Disney+’s first original historical drama series 〈The Murky Stream〉 visited the 30th Busan International Film Festival, engaging with domestic and international fans through a variety of events, including the opening ceremony red carpet, outdoor stage greetings, the first screening and GV, and a special ‘Tea Room Talk’ event.

First, on the 17th (Wednesday), the red carpet event of the opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Rowoon, Park Seo Ham, Shin Ye Eun, and Park Ji Hwan. In particular, Shin Ye Eun's cute appearance captured on the live broadcast screen and the renowned director Guillermo del Toro mimicking her became a hot topic, generating a strong reaction on social media. Fans expressed, “The Busan International Film Festival should give the MVP award to actress Shin Ye Eun.”

The outdoor stage greeting and the GV that followed the first screening on the 18th (Thursday) also received great responses. Director Choo Chang Min, Rowoon, Shin Ye Eun, Park Seo Ham, Park Ji Hwan, and Choi Gwi Hwa, who communicated with fans for the first time at the outdoor stage greeting, expressed their affection for the work during a 20-minute session. The first two episodes of 〈The Murky Stream〉, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, received warm applause as the ending credits rolled, adding to the special experience. During the subsequent GV, the cast, including Director Choo Chang Min, shared behind-the-scenes stories related to the filming of 〈The Murky Stream〉. The cast expressed their gratitude to the director, saying, “Thanks to the director who took the time to allow the actors to act freely and showed consideration, we were able to enjoy filming” (Rowoon), “A work that captures Director Choo Chang Min's persistence well. All the actors trusted, followed, and wanted to be with the director. It was so happy. If it weren't for Director Choo Chang Min, this character and this work wouldn't have come out” (Park Ji Hwan), “I will do it anytime if the director calls me again” (Choi Gwi Hwa).

Additionally, while filming 〈The Murky Stream〉, where I could showcase a strong transformation and new challenges, I faced many difficult scenes every moment, but I was able to do well by creating it together with wonderful fellow actors and seniors. I even attended a voice acting academy to prepare for the character ‘Si Yul’” (Rowoon), “The filming site of 〈The Murky Stream〉 was really warm. Thanks to the seniors beside me, I was able to film without fear. I had many discussions with the director to portray the character ‘Choi Eun’” (Shin Ye Eun), “At first, I had a thought that I wanted to do well, so there were tough parts, but thanks to the director's warm words, ‘Seo Ham, everyone here is on your side,’ and Rowoon's encouragement, ‘No one knows Jeong Cheon better than you,’ I was able to film well” (Park Seo Ham), sharing stories about the actors' efforts and challenges in a warm atmosphere on set.

The ‘Murky Stream Tea Room Talk’ event held at a cafe located on Dalmaji Road in Haeundae was also successfully conducted. About 40 fans attended the event, sharing various stories about the actors and 〈The Murky Stream〉. In particular, they answered every question prepared by the fans, sharing special stories about the filming behind the scenes and character preparations, heating up the venue.

Disney+’s first original historical drama series 〈The Murky Stream〉 is an action drama about the fate of those who dreamed differently to turn the chaotic world upside down and live like humans, surrounding the Gyeonggang where all the money and goods of Joseon gather. 〈The Murky Stream〉 will be exclusively available on Disney+, starting with the release of episodes 1-3 on 9/26 (Friday), followed by two episodes released weekly, totaling 9 episodes.
